There is a Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect this afternoon into early evening for much of the Ottawa Valley.
“Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts and large hail,” reads an Environment Canada notice.
Damaging wind gusts of up to 110 km/h are possible, along with large hail up to four centimetres. There’s also a risk of a tornado.
“A cold front moving through the area is expected to trigger severe thunderstorms this afternoon. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road,” reads the notice.
Members of the public are advised to be prepared for severe weather and to take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
“Stay indoors when a thunderstorm strikes. There isn’t a place outside that is safe during a thunderstorm,” reads the notice.
Emergency Management Ontario recommends you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ONstorm@ec.gc.ca or post reports on X using #ONStorm.
