Hockey families in the Ottawa Valley will be keeping a close eye on the Renfrew Wolves as they own the podium early in Tuesday’s CCHL Player Draft.
Club President Brent Gould and his staff are prepared to put what he calls their three-year plan to become contenders into overdrive that evening as they get set to make five of the first twelve open draft selections following the local protection picks on Tuesday night.
He says it’s all being built around the youth movement they pivoted to at the trade deadline back in January.
Gould stresses how important “winning” the draft is at both the Junior A and B levels as the franchise develops a pipeline of talent behind the three to five Timberwolves players expected to join the Wolves next season.
That’s a positive sign for what has become a burgeoning pool of young players eager to continue playing close to home.
Perhaps the Wolves’ most obvious need is to fix last season’s dead-last scoring numbers, and Gould admits that he would not be scared off by player commitments to major junior following this past weekend’s OHL draft when making his selections.
In fact, he’s confident that both sides could benefit from those players joining the Wolves system.
The 2025 CCHL Player Draft gets underway Tuesday, April 15th, 2025, at 6:00 pm inside the Nepean Sportsplex.
