The arrival of spring and warmer temperatures brings with it continued and new construction projects across the County of Renfrew.
Work continues on Matawatchan Road (County Road 71) in the Township of Greater Madawaska. Officials say rock removal and widening of the causeway is ongoing in support of the rehabilitation of the road. The rock removal is occurring approximately 8.2 kilometres south of Highway 41 and is expected to be completed April 18. During this time, the road at this location will be reduced to a single lane with temporary, short-term closures occurring during off-peak hours.
The overall rehabilitation of Matawatchan Road from civic address 4882 to Centennial Lake Road (County Road 65) is anticipated to commence May 26 and be completed by mid-June.
Also ongoing is work on the Combermere Bridge (County Structure B145) in the Township of Madawaska Valley. The project began April 2, and is anticipated to be completed mid-November. During construction, the bridge will be limited to a single lane of traffic with temporary signals in place, and Mill Street will be closed at Combermere Road with detour in place. Pedestrian access across the bridge will be maintained during the project.
The Department of Public Works and Engineering provides monthly updates to help keep residents, businesses, and stakeholders informed of any potential upcoming traffic interruptions due to construction projects.
