With construction season on the horizon, one Renfrew official wants to ease some of the frustrations when it comes to local road work.
Councillor Andrew Dick explains he turned to social media recently to lay out the road work that’s been done and what’s in store as a way to assure residents online that progress is being made.
His post points to the noticeable work that has already been done, including improvements and construction done to a total of 24.68 kilometres of roadways over the previous six years, and lists a number of projects that are either being developed or are shovel-ready and just waiting to be implemented.
Dick says that the council is committed to a balance between addressing the issues more comprehensively than just temporary patches and finding the grants needed to cover the work under the town’s tight financial situation.
In one example, he explained that the proposed $3.7 million reconstruction of Monroe Avenue and Harry Street would add 33% to the tax levy just on its own if they weren’t constantly reaching out to the federal and provincial governments for assistance.
While he refused to elaborate on just how much road work this year’s budget will allow for, his post does point out a few major new and continuing projects, including phase one of their Hall Avenue overhaul, the water main replacements and paving along Ma-te-Way Park Drive, and the remaining portions of Dominion Street and Eighth Street that could see shovels go into the ground soon.
