Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the Ottawa Valley and beyond ahead of this weekend.
Experts say a “potent” spring ice storm is likely to bring significant ice accretion from freezing rain, beginning late Friday and continuing through Monday.
Risks include possible utility outages and slippery surfaces and broken tree branches from ice build-up.
“Confidence is increasing in a widespread, prolonged freezing rain event over portions of southern and northeastern Ontario,” reads the statement. “The swath of maximum ice accretion is still uncertain at this point, but confidence is highest for areas of central and eastern Ontario between Parry Sound and Kingston.”
Warnings will be issued as the event draws nearer.
The public is asked to please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
