A Whitewater Region man has been charged after allegedly shooting into an unoccupied vehicle that’s alarm had been sounding for an extended period of time.
Officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a weapons call in Whitewater Region around 11:45 p.m. Feb. 12 after a witness reported hearing a car alarm and gunshots.
Investigation revealed the alarm had been going off for some time.
“The unoccupied vehicle was subsequently shot resulting in significant damage. No one was injured during the incident,” reads an OPP press release.
The 49-year-old was arrested without incident and three long guns were seized. The accused is charged with: careless use of a firearm; unauthorized possession of a firearm; possession of a weapon for a dangerous person; and mischief over $5,000.
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at a later date at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke.
Police say the name of the accused is being withheld to protect the identity of victim as this incident involves neighbours.
The charges have not been proven in court.
