The big kickoff to Renfrew’s annual signature events could not have come at a better time, considering the recent blast of winter weather.
Frewfest returns for two full days of fun and adventure in and around the myFM Centre this Family Day weekend, starting off with sliding and kicksledding with the Mad River Paddle Company along the slopes of Ma-te-Way Park Sunday morning at 9:30.
Programs Supervisor Janyne Fraser is thrilled that so many sponsors and volunteers have come together to make the town’s annual winter carnival the best it’s ever been.
Other events that will benefit from this past week’s winter storm include snowman building, horse-drawn wagon rides, and a guided snowshoe through the nearby system of trails.
Fraser adds that residents have already shared their excitement for a chance to meet with a wildlife rescue operation that’s ready to bring the truly wild to Renfrew.
Both days of the adventure inside Ma-te-Way Park will be capped off by an appearance from both of our local junior hockey teams; the Junior B Timberwolves welcome the Smiths Falls Jr. Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday before the Junior A Wolves continue the Battle of the Valley against the Pembroke Lumber Kings at 2:00 p.m. on Monday.
Fraser says she has been pleasantly surprised with how well pairing up with the Wolves organization for the event has gone since she took over programming last year.
Most of Frewfest is either free to attend or free while supplies last.
