Commuters across the Ottawa Valley should take care to stay warm, even after Environment Canada’s weekend warning about extreme cold.
Renfrew County has been hit by a serious cold snap over the past few days, posing a frostbite risk to people outdoors as wind chill values dropped as low as minus 35 at times.
Environment Canada predicts temperatures to drop close to that mark again on Tuesday night and into the morning on Wednesday.
At these temperatures, frostbite can develop on exposed skin within minutes. As such, the weather agency urges people heading out tonight to cover up in warm layers that can be easily removed as needed.
Cold weather affects everyone, so be sure to check on older family, friends, and neighbours, being wary of symptoms like shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness, and colour change in fingers and toes.
Lastly, Environment Canada reminds you that if it’s too cold outside for you, it’s way too cold for your pets.
