The Renfrew Minor Hockey Association is ready to make use of one of the biggest additions recently made to Ma-te-Way Park weekend.
RMHA Treasurer and Team Manager Jenn Daniels says their two Under 13 House League teams will host over a thousand visiting players and their families for a three-day tournament at the myFM Centre this weekend.
The line-up features 10 out-of-town teams eager to enjoy a full weekend schedule of games using both ice pads at the myFM Centre, including some teams that would have not bothered to make the trip back when just one ice pad at the arena meant having to cram the entire competition into a single hectic day.
Backers of the second ice pad at the myFM Centre have often pointed to the increased tourism opportunities it would bring by allowing for bigger tournaments, something Daniels is inclined to agree with.
Daniels says that she’s already hearing back from local restaurants thrilled to be hosting so many visitors, adding that the RMHA is happy to help during what has been a slow winter season.
Of course, it’s also a big boost for the RMHA’s group of volunteers as they look to create positive experiences for kids in our community.
Games get underway this Friday, January 10th, at 6:30 p.m. with the Renfrew Timberwolves #2 (Charbonneau’s Grocery) hosting the CASE Cyclones. You’re invited to drop by anytime this weekend to cheer our local teams on.
