Renfrew residents are expected to become a beacon for hope and remembrance this Friday evening.
Programs supervisor Janyne Fraser says the town will honour the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women by holding a special ceremony in the centre of town.
Fraser hopes the ceremony will help the community reflect on the enduring impacts of intimate partner violence, harkening back to the 1989 massacre at Polytechnique Montréal, which left 14 women dead and another 14 injured in a targeted attack.
The town is hopeful to build upon the moment of reflection in the years to come after its first run in 2023, which saw a small group of citizens brave frigid weather to take part.
