Radon Gas is a proven health risk, and November is Radon Awareness Month.
A collaboration between MRC Pontiac, Social Services Outaouais and Citizens of the Pontiac kicks off the month with an important information session for residents, slated for the Campbell’s Bay Recreation Centre on Saturday November 2nd.
The statistical presence of Radon in the Pontiac (22 percent of tested homes), exceeds the Canadian average of 7 percent, perhaps due in part to the historic mining of uranium deposits on the area.
The session will run from 1-3PM on November 2nd, and will focus on the need for continued residential testing, because removal of the Radon Gas enhances health outcomes.
Indoor Air Quality is this year’s focus, and organizers note that some U.S. jurisdictions now require publication of a home’s test results when it is put up for sale. In a couple of key areas, the Quebec Building Code has been modernized to accommodate Radon realities.
There will be four speakers from stakeholder groups with important information for Pontiac residents, as Radon Gas can induce lung cancer even among non-smokers.
Admission to the meeting is free.
