Bronwyn Wearring says to forget about the 9-to-5; rearing and raising horses at White Forest Farm is more like a 24/7, 365 kind of commitment.
Wearring has been participating in the sport since the age of 7, developing her craft in locations as far as Toronto and Italy before taking over for her mother, Kate, as the head coach and program director for the family farm’s equestrian riding classes.
Owned by the Wearring family since 2007, White Forest Farm provides 90 acres of farmland and bush for 19 horses, several of whom are currently part of their riding program. Bronwyn says most of their horses come into the fold at the age of 2 or 3, learning the basics in small chunks and becoming familiar with the expectations on them as they become part of the lessons at around age 7.
The Ottawa Valley provides plenty of trail systems and friendly neighbours who allow the farm access to private areas, giving students and horses plenty of exposure to different ecosystems, environments, and conditions outside the farm’s sand ring arena.
Registration for vaulting and riding lessons, as well as special clinics, open barn events, and more, is available on their website.
