Renfrew’s youth and newcomers helped lead the way as the town rallied in support of cancer research over the weekend.
Co-organizer Patti Leclaire tells myFM that the 44th annual Terry Fox Run set a high bar for future fundraisers to clear on Sunday, thanks in no small part to its youngest and newest participants.
The $16,000 and counting raised includes a massive fundraising effort from young runner’s team, who Lelcaire notes brought in around $1,500 in pledges on their own ahead of taking off from Ma-te-Way Park on Sunday.
She also heaped plenty of praise on the people who took time to help her and co-organizer Dan Donohue continue Renfrew’s long history of supporting the Terry Fox Foundation, which dates back to the very first run in 1981.
Leclaire says Sunday’s warm and sunny weather made for perfect conditions to host the run under, and the many organizations who pitched in during the event kept everything running smoothly.
She also noted that Renfrew’s generosity towards cancer research is not over. Community figures will be matching donations in the coming days, and our local schools will head off for their own fundraiser runs in the coming weeks.
