The owners of Renfrew Pizzeria believe that their break-in on Tuesday morning is not an isolated incident.
Donald Rodgers tells myFM that his storefront has been just one hit by a rash of around six other break-and-enters and other suspicious activity across Renfrew in the past few weeks, including thefts at Ricky’s Spuds and Renfrew’s Protyre, as well as an unknown person caught on security footage casing the area around Kung Po House Chinese Cuisine.
In his case, Rodgers says the crook gained entry through one of the small sliding windows at the front of the pizza place at around 5 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
The culprit ransacked the storefront for valuables, destroying the cash register for its contents before searching the walk-in fridge and downstairs office. They would attempt to move a large safe before apparently giving up and leaving through the back door.
Rodgers is surprised that the apparently adult robber trying to squeeze through a small window did not catch that much attention from early morning traffic on Raglan Street.
The incident and the clean-up effort afterwards would result in the loss of half a day’s sales and limit their service to carry out and delivery only that evening.
While it’s not the early morning call that any small business owner wants to get, Rodgers says he still has a job to do serving their signature pizzas to people across the Renfrew area and is refusing to let the situation weigh him down.
That doesn’t mean Rodgers is fine with what happened, as he made it clear that the person responsible for the recent series of break-ins is usually taking from working-class people trying to make a living.
