Renfrew’s local Tim Hortons could not have wished for a better turnout, as they dedicated Wednesday to supporting the Ottawa Valley’s underprivileged youth.
Franchise co-owner Richard Dean says both of Renfrew’s Tims locations were busy all Wednesday as the community dropped by to donate for Camp Day, which will send 100% of hot and iced coffee sales into the Tims Camp program and send two more Renfrew kids in need to Camp des Voyageurs in Quyon.
Richard and wife Shelly were joined by local first responders, media members, community groups, and other volunteers, who helped hand out coffee and take donations at the counter and in the drive-through.
Acting Sergeant Brianna Roberege with the Renfrew OPP was one of a few officers from the detachment to spend what she considers a vital few hours engaging with the public.
Meanwhile, the Deans were able to get a first-hand look at just how eager and willing Renfrew was to give back as they bounced between both sites to distribute remaining Camp Day t-shirts and other merchandise.
It’s the kind of community reaction that exactly explains why the husband-and-wife team jumped at the chance to buy the stores just a few years ago.
Camp Day has raised over $250 million since it became a nationwide initiative back in 1991, supporting 320,000 youth through multi-year developmental programs at seven camps in Canada and the United States.
Local totals from this year are expected to be revealed in the coming days.
