More homes are coming to Renfrew, and no parks will be harmed in the process.
The town has sold 210 Ready Avenue to Lero Properties for the development of a 24-unit complex that, despite concerns from residents, will not take over RCAF Park, according to Director of Development Eric Withers.
Withers explains that “Renfrew town council’s decision to approve the sale of the property on Ready Avenue reflects the council’s commitment to increasing the supply of needed housing in the town of Renfrew through creative residential projects such as this.”
He also notes that part of the property’s appeal to the developer is being right next to what Mayor Tom Sidney describes as “probably one of the most beautiful” parks the town owns, and the hope is that future residents will feel the same.
Part of the deal is that Lero Properties will be building a public parking lot for visitors to RCAF Park on the property, built at the developer’s expense. They will also need to ensure some of the units fit the growing need for affordable, attainable housing.
Council unanimously approved the sale, with a number of positive responses to bringing new housing to Renfrew. Councillor Jason Legris, who is himself a rental property owner, says he has locals asking him regularly if there are any open units while living in hotels and other options.
