Renfrew-born Julie Tower is in the running to become the next Ms. Health and Fitness. (Julie Tower photo)
Mom, obstacle course racer, cold plunger, tv star, friend, auto worker, cover girl?
Is there anything Renfrew-born Julie Tower can’t do?
Tower, who has family members in the Renfrew area, not only made the top 10 of a contest to grace the cover of Muscle & Fitness HERS and win $20,000, she’s held the second-place spot for some time now. And supporters can continue to vote to help her secure that coveted ranking.
She’s grateful for all those who’ve kept her at the top.
She jests of course because she not only gets out of bed each day, she runs, jumps, swims and smiles her way through life with an awe-inspiring joie du vivre.
Tower, who has experienced more than her fair share of loss, fully believes that life is too short to not enjoy it to the fullest.
And she’s honoured to be where she is in the running, considering the calibre of her fellow contestants.
And she’s no stranger to the spotlight, having had a dominant run through “Canada’s Ultimate Challenge” on CBC, an experience that opened new doors for her.
As for what she’d do with the considerable prize money, along with fixing up a home she recently purchased in her home base of Welland and honouring her fox fixation with a lawn ornament, there’s a special person she has in mind.
Her daughter is in Korea teaching right now and Tower said she is known for her ‘heart of gold.’
For now, Tower is pleased to be healing well from a knee injury suffered in a 24-hour race last year, as evidenced by a third-place finish at a recent 12-hour overnight race, and is looking ahead to continuing her quest to live life to the fullest.
Online voting to determine the top five ends this Thursday, June 6, at 7 p.m. Votes can be made through the Ms. Health and Fitness website. Your first vote each day is free, with additional votes available for $1 each in support of the B+ Foundation, which provides financial assistance to families, funds childhood cancer research, and brings awareness to the fight against childhood cancer.
