The Town of Renfrew is backing provincial legislation that will speed up the construction of new homes.
Director of Development, Environment, and Infrastructure, Eric Withers, has sent a letter of support to the Ontario Government on behalf of the town for most of the proposed changes in the Cutting Red Tape to Build More Homes Act.
It’s not full support, but the Town of Renfrew likes a lot of provincial Bill 185, including increased flexibility and allowing for fast-tracked redesignation of lands for development purposes.
Withers notes that the proposed bill would make several amendments to the existing development policy in the name of a more efficient process for building residential units.
Traditional and affordable housing has been a hot topic in Renfrew, which saw county staff host a housing summit with developers back in early April.
As such, town staff have also sent the provincial government detailed comments on each of the proposed changes in the bill, listing a few concerns and recommended improvements.
