The next slate of infrastructure projects in Renfrew will go to the drawing board.
Town Council voted on Tuesday to award engineering services for design work on five upcoming road projects.
That includes the reconstruction of Hall Avenue from Barr to Gillan to be done by Jp2g Consultants, an extension of Hall Avenue towards the highway by BT Engineering, phase two of work along Harry Street and Joe Avenue by Stantec (formerly Morrison Hershfield), the rehabilitation of asphalt along Opeongo Road by Novatech, and the preliminary design for a connection between Opeongo Road and Ma-te-Way Park Drive by BT Engineering.
Having a second route to the myFM Centre is of particular concern for Fire Chief Mike Guest, especially with the building becoming a central community hub.
He adds that the facility having multiple means of entry is important in case of a major disaster striking the area.
The approval for all five projects comes despite some pushback from the public on spending, as noted by Councilor Andrew Dick.
All five winning bids came in under their respective design budgets, which ranged from $100,000 to $300,000 plus tax.
