The results of multiple years monitoring traffic in one Renfrew neighbourhood are in.
Town Council met for Committee of the Whole on Tuesday to hear the findings of a pilot program to reduce the speed limit inside the Hunter Gate Subdivision from 50 km/h to 30 km/h.
Director of Facilities, Maintenance, and Operations Janet Collins says the lower posted limit did eventually lower the percentage of people driving over it between September 2022 to May 2023, with one caveat.
The pilot kicked off in September of 2022 after residents living in the area petitioned the previous council to curb through-traffic from the nearby O’Brien Road.
Collins had two recommendations for council to consider ahead of finalizing the report at next week’s general meeting, including what to do with the posted speed limit in the subdivision.
She also had a wider-ranging suggestion that would simplify the town’s speed limit by-law, which has been modified a number of times since implementation.
Despite the lengthy amount of attention given to traffic in the Hunter Gate Subdivision, Collins says that the area will remain a low-enforcement zone for police.
