Interesting coincidence!
Sara Wood, a Vice-President with the Ontario Federation of Agriculture, writing in Farms.com and posted April 29th to “OFA Viewpoint” has published an editorial piece entitled “Introducing the next generation of farm leaders to advocacy.”
She notes, “Canada is in the midst of a generational shift… Things are no different in Canada’s farming sector, where both farm businesses and farm organizations are seeing younger people step forward into positions of ownership, leadership and management.”
The Perth County native and OFA exec says all of her peers are farming with multiple generations of family on the farm and know first-hand how valuable it is to give young people hands-on experiences that will prepare them for future leadership roles.
The Ontario Federation of Agriculture hosts an annual advocacy day at Queen’s Park to dialogue with elected officials, and Woods observes that this year five young federation delegates were part of the contingent that met Ontario government officials last month.
