The Ottawa Valley will take a quick plunge into darkness on April 8th, so make sure that you’re prepared.
While they are not planning anything specific for the total solar eclipse set to roll over town that afternoon, the Town of Renfrew says that they are spreading the word about how you can safely view the event with help from the Canadian Space Agency.
It comes down to proper eye protection; regular sunglasses won’t cut it! Instead, pick up a pair of glasses with lenses that have certified filters designed for eclipse viewing. If you do take an unprotected look at the eclipse by accident and experience any adverse reactions, reach out to your eye care physician or dial Health 811.
Town staff add that travel will likely be affected, so expect increased traffic in some parts of the Ottawa Valley as people get together to view the eclipse. Planning ahead could save you a headache dealing with congestion on local roads and highways.
If you are on the road during the eclipse, stay in your car and keep your attention on the road, following local directives and signage to avoid collisions.
For more information on viewing the eclipse in Renfrew and the Ottawa Valley, the town points residents to check out Destination Ontario’s website as well as the Canadian Space Agency’s website.
