Dr. Morgan Welburn
Dr. Morgan Welburn says International Women’s Day is a chance to reflect on the massive achievements made by women in our communities.
The co-owner of the Renfrew Eye Clinic tells myFM that the once male-dominated field of optometrists has seen a major shift in the last decade, now including around 60% women.
Dr. Welburn feels lucky to have stepped into a welcoming environment when she first joined the clinic, an experience that not everyone is able to enjoy.
This Friday holds a lot of importance for Dr. Welburn, who says that it’s encouraging to see our society striving to do more to support women exploring their career passions, especially in the field of medicine.
The breaking of barriers that is celebrated on International Women’s Day can sometimes mean getting out of your own way to achieve what you’re capable of.
Dr. Welburn tells myFM that, growing up in a small Quyon family, there weren’t many other examples of women working towards a university education, which she was the first of her generation to pursue.
As such, it’s vital that she and other female leaders in our community be visible and share their experiences in order to continue to break gender stigmas and inspire change.
Dr. Welburn will get a chance to put that into practice, as she will be part of a panel discussion around building a personal empire with other trailblazing local women at the Ottawa Valley Women’s Collective this Sunday at the Petawawa Legion.
She’s excited for the chance to share experiences, both personally and in their respective business fields.
