After years on the shelf, Homecoming makes its much-anticipated return at Renfrew Collegiate Institute.
Homecoming Committee chair Lynn Clelland says they will break with tradition and welcome all RCI alumni to join them on Saturday, April 27th, regardless of their graduating year, for their first run of the event since before COVID-19.
The day will get underway with three free events: tours for alumni to get a look at the “new” school from 10:00 a.m. to noon, followed by a meet-and-greet with former students and staff at the Renfrew Wing from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., followed by a kitchen party where you are welcome to bring an instrument and jam with fellow alumni until 5:00 p.m.
There are also two paid events that evening, featuring appetizers served by the Backyard Gourmet BBQ from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with the night wrapping up with music and dancing from 8:00 p.m. to midnight.
Clelland, a former student and teacher at RCI, says that she’s aware that some graduates occasionally hold small gatherings, but there’s nothing quite like catching up with old friends who have moved on to new experiences.
She adds that RCI’s first chance to see familiar faces and share stories with old friends in several years does not happen without a lot of helping hands.
Registration is available through the RCI Homecoming 2024 Facebook page, and Clelland says at least 100 alumni have already confirmed that evening’s paid celebrations through e-transfer.
The full night costs $30 per person, while alumni are also welcome to just come to enjoy the dance for $10.
