Bonnechere Manor in the County of Renfrew welcomes four international Personal Support Workers – Achile Awashare, Linda Samule-Uche, Fleury Dushime, and Mavis Kissi. This marks the start of a unique recruitment initiative bringing a total of 20 new PSWs to the team, with the remaining 16 expected to join by June 2024.
The initiative is a response to the challenge of limited health human resources, providing comprehensive training for the new recruits, including orientation to Canadian health-care standards. This approach not only ensures care consistency at Bonnechere Manor but also reduces dependence on staffing agencies, minimizing costs.
The addition of 20 permanent staff members is anticipated to increase funded hours of direct care for Bonnechere Manor residents. Director of Long-term Care Mike Blackmore expresses confidence in the new team’s ability to contribute to the mission of creating a safe and caring community.
Owned and operated by the County of Renfrew and the City of Pembroke, Bonnechere Manor, established in 1958, offers a range of long-term programs and services. The recent accreditation with Exemplary Standing Award, the highest recognition from Accreditation Canada, reflects the commitment to national standards and continuous quality improvements in care services.
