2024’s Battle of the Valley was already decided with a 6-3 win the night before in Pembroke, but the Renfrew Wolves would not back down from a challenge at home as Frewfest came to a close at the myFM Centre on Monday afternoon.
The Wolves would put an exclamation mark on the 5-game series with an 8-4 win, with Jace Letourneau and Noah Vom Scheidt making their presence felt with a pair of goals each. Henry Wilson, Ethan Smith, Jack Dolan, and Andrew Morton would also keep the Lumber Kings at bay with tallies of their own.
The win cements the second straight Battle of the Valley win for the Wolves, 4-games-to-1, with the wager between the town’s stipulating that members of Pembroke Town Council will wear Renfrew Wolves jerseys at an upcoming meeting.
Recent Wolves acquisition Lincoln Mellenthin would bend but not break as he assumed goaltending duties for the contest, giving up four games across 29 shots for his second straight win.
Renfrew wouldn’t get away from the contest unscathed as the short-staffed Lumber Kings would get increasingly physical throughout the contest, culminating in a series of third-period shoving matches and Pembroke forward Mikayil Kahriman being ejected for instigating a fight during one of the scuffles.
The Wolves get a few days off before hitting the road to Kemptville for a matchup with the 73’s on Friday, February 23rd. 96.1 myFM will carry that game for you from the North Grenville Municipal Centre, starting with the pre-game show at 7:20 p.m.
