Renfrew’s mayor is facing some tough criticism from members of town council.
Council passed a non-confidence motion on Tuesday night, expressing that they have lost confidence in Mayor Tom Sidney’s leadership.
The vote stems from Sidney’s involvement and responsibilities for the Ma-te-Way Expansion Project as the former Chair of the Parks and Recreation Committee and as Mayor.
Despite the non-confidence motion passing, it does not give the council the authority to remove Sidney or any other council member from office under the Municipal Act.
As such, Sidney will retain his duties, representing the municipality at official functions and presiding over council meetings.
Councilor John McDonald put the motion forward earlier this month, and it passed in a record vote of four to three.
