A joint delegation of three municipalities in Renfrew County met with a provincial official to discuss infrastructure needs at the AMO conference. Arnprior, Renfrew and Whitewater Region have several projects planned or ready to improve roads, arenas, waterfronts and more.
Whitewater Region Mayor Neil Nicholson added, “While one-time funding and grants are very much appreciated, sustainable funding from the provincial and federal governments are needed to help small municipalities in Ontario grow and stay on top of local infrastructure.”
Renfrew Mayor Tom Sidney says, “The Town of Renfrew is grateful to have received significant federal and provincial infrastructure funding to help repair and upgrade aging infrastructure in the community and several projects are either shovel ready or in the design stage in order to be ready in 2024.”
Arnprior Mayor Lisa McGee says, “The Town of Arnprior has approximately $24.8 million in infrastructure projects planned over the next five years including a number of large-scale road projects, the replacement of both ice surfaces at the Nick Smith Centre and the Robert Simpson Park Waterfront Revitalization.”
They asked for sustainable funding, continued investments and support for climate change mitigation. The delegation also sought funding for a new infrastructure program. The AMO conference is a yearly event that connects Ontario’s municipalities.
