The Town of Renfrew made sure to have their say at the recent Association of Municipalities of Ontario Conference.
Mayor Tom Sidney, Chief Administrative Officer Rob Tremblay, and Reeve Peter Emon joined other Renfrew County delegates over the past four days, pushing provincial ministers for funding and policy on local issues.
The group was able to secure talks with five different ministries, including a sit-down with Transportation Minister Caroline Mulroney as the community plans for the Highway 417 expansion and a meeting with Environment Minister David Piccini on ways to allow public access and environmental protection for ravine lands between Highway 17 and the Bonnechere River.
They also worked on getting more provincial funding for the Ma-te-Way Activity Centre’s Indigenous Hub and on ways to get more programming partnerships for the local library.
The annual AMO forum brings Ontario’s 444 municipalities together to collaborate and lobby for funding and policy changes.
Mayor Sidney calls it “a great opportunity for the town” to collaborate with multiple provincial leaders at once as they “continue to modernize and move Renfrew forward.”
