“Planning to navigate Calabogie Road,” was the operative phrase after a ruptured beaver dam left a large portion under water.
Yesterday afternoon’s incident closed Calabogie Road between Burnstown and Calabogie, forcing a lengthy detour. Those needing to travel between the two points had to do so using County Road 52 (Burnstown Road), Pucker Street, and County Road 34 (Whelan and Norton Road) making travel at least three times as long.
Local travel for residents living along Calabogie Road was also affected, with barricades placed on Calabogie Road 836 metres northeast of Kubiseskie Road, and on Calabogie Road 282 metres northeast of Kubiseskie Road.
The incident was similar to a 2019 situation in Pakenham where waters almost closed the public school and reminds us the toothy rodents are Mother Nature’s Engineering Corps.
