After retiring from owning her own business last year, Karen Bretzlaff turned to Valley Animal Rescue looking for something productive to do with her time.
Initially interested in volunteering to foster cats, Karen was given the chance to assume more duties with the charitable organization as their Volunteer Coordinator and now oversees the entire cast of people helping foster and support stray animals in the Ottawa Valley.
Since taking the role last year, Bretzlaff has been in charge of recruiting volunteers and ensuring their paperwork is in order. She also is the person in getting volunteers in place to help with events and needs within Valley Animal Rescue’s reach.
A cat lover herself, Karen appreciates when stray animals are given the chance to be a part of a loving family. She notes that cats are a big concern, as the recent mating season has a left a number of stray mothers barely hanging on as they attempt to care for their litter. According to Karen, Valley Animal Rescue makes a note of saving both the litter and their mother to ensure the later can also have a chance to lead a healthy, happy life, and to control the pet population through spading.
Bretzlaff says Valley Animal Rescue is always looking for volunteers, and that you shouldn’t hesitate to get in touch through their website if you enjoy helping animals.
