With the Renfrew Rotary Club celebrating 100 years of volunteering the community, Kathy Lofthouse’s work with Rotary programs are prime examples of top-notch volunteerism in Renfrew.
Kathy broke into the Rotary Club through a friend who was involved with their Student Exchange program, which sends a local student internationally for a school term while also hosting a student from abroad to do their school in our community. When Kathy asked about how she could host a student, her friend said that become a Rotarian would be her best avenue to do so.
Lofthouse has also become an active proponent of the Rotary Club’s Music Festival Program, which pulls in young musicians and vocalists from across the Ottawa Valley and Kanata to present their talents in front of an audience and adjudicators for critique.
COVID-19 restrictions caused a significant strain on both programs, especially the music festival, and Kathy’s hope is to build participation back up to where it was before the pandemic hit.
She believes the Rotary Club is an amazing opportunity for anyone looking to participate in bettering their community, and reminds people that all it can take to get started is asking someone you know who is a Rotarian to get started.
