It’s a tradition for many in the Ottawa Valley.
Blueberry season has arrived and you can pick your own at Hugli’s Blueberry Ranch outside of Pembroke.
Owner Brian Hugli says you can pick a basket in about ten to fifteen minutes and adds people have been filling pails and coolers.
Hugli says opening day for blueberry picking was July 15th and the season usually runs to the labour day long weekend.
At the blueberry ranch on Greenwood Road you will find 17 acres of plants with 17 different blueberry varieties that ripen at various times.
The Hugli family has been growing blueberries for 44-years and they even have a family cookbook for sale with different recipes.
You can pick your own blueberries at Hugli’s from Monday to Friday between 8:00am and 8:00pm, Saturdays from 9:00am to 5:00pm and Sundays from 11:00am to 4:00pm.
By taking the Algonquin Trail, you can also bike from Pembroke, Petawawa, Cobden or beyond to Hugli’s and come pick some berries or reward yourself with an ice-cream.
