“Politics is knowing how government affects your lives,” according to Cam Sebastian.
Cam has been keen on civics and history since his high school days in Renfrew, and has continued his interest through his recently wrapped up studies at Queen’s University. Through that time, he has also taken on duties within the offices of Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke M.P. Cheryl Galant as a constituency assistant.
In his role, Cam acts as the first point of contact for local residents with concerns, complaints, or questions for our local Member of Parliament. His work to compile these communications allow Galant the ability to fulfill her duties in committees and focus on attending various events and visits in the riding. He adds that there are some good days and some days of handling frustrations, but it’s an important task that ensures our Member of Parliament knows our thoughts on how things are being run.
Cam believes the most pressing issue that hampers young people today, especially when they’re interested in politics, is not a lack of opportunity but rather a failure in communication. He knows that there are chances to be involved in our local political world, but often times they’re not presented well enough to grab people’s attention.
Ultimately, he believes that our riding is in good hands at the moment. However, Cam is not ruling out a run in local government in the future as things in the political world are always changing.
