Places of worship can be the backbone of a strong, supportive community.
Eric Allan is a high school student in Renfrew as well as an active member of the Elmwood Bible Chapel, which he describes little assembly in the heart of the town. Eric’s been a member of the Chapel since 2013 and through it’s youth group (which was at one time run by his parents) has taken part in a number of efforts to help the community such as assisting people in need of a de-cluttering in their living or storage spaces as well as outdoor clean-up efforts in the Chapel’s surrounding neighbourhoods.
Eric believes a major issue that young people have to deal with is outside pressure to become something or someone that they do not necessarily want to be. According to him, today’s youth can easily feel routed towards a career or lifestyle that goes against what their aspirations. Eric says he’s found strength to handle those expectations with the help of his faith and his family.
While he’s currently planning the career path he’ll embark on, he feels comfortable knowing that he will continue to serve the community through his faith and Elmwood Bible Chapel. He also looks forward to continuing his efforts to help his fellow residents in all ways, both big and small.
