As well as being an important part of any community, a local high school is itself a thriving, bustling community of it’s own with new stories and events occurring each day.
Shantica Kaseke’s work as the leader for Renfrew Collegiate Institute’s Media Team allows her to witness, document, and take part in her school’s daily life. The team is responsible for covering and presenting events and projects for the rest of the school, as well as recording RCI’s sporting exploits.
Shantica credits her teacher, Adam Noack, and fellow student Alexa Narezny for guiding her into her role on the Media Team. While she didn’t originally set out to join the team, she’s happy she has as it’s allowed her to create and share video presentations on topics such as International Women’s Day, Remembrance Day, as well as work in line with her advocacy on mental health.
Had Shantica been aware of how much she would enjoy working as part of the media team, a career in media may have been in the cards. However, she has her sights set on a law degree in order to become a child advocate lawyer. She does intend to use the media skills she’s learned to better organize and present her future cases.
