Customers of Reid’s Lake Campground in Renfrew are going to see a rate increase this year, but not nearly as much as they had been told just days before camping season opens.
A patron of the private campgrounds took to social media last week, saying they had paid the agreed rate in full for the 2022 season at the end of last year. However, the owners of the campground sent out an additional invoice to their customers with only a little time left before the opening.
According the social media post, the new invoice nearly doubled the previously agreed upon rate, up from around $3400 to $6200. Inflation and upcoming improvements to the campground facilities were cited as the main reasons prices were going up.
Harmony Resorts, owners of Reid’s Lake Campground, sent out a letter Friday evening apologizing to customers for the “excessive” new rates and “poor timing” in executing the increases. There will be an increase in rates this year to offset inflation, but now campground users will only pay an additional $500.
The letter also states that Harmony Resorts are now looking to rebuild their relationship with their customers.
