White Pine College: Gillies Mill and the Village of Braeside should be an education for us all.
Archivist Emma Carey says the project was over a decade in the making, as former archivist Laurie Dougherty and a volunteer crew collected oral history interviews, old newspaper articles and memorabilia.
Carey says funding to package the project was obtained through the Virtual Museum of Canada’s Community Stories Investment Program about a year ago- and the rest is history.
Emma says while the Village of Braeside and the Gillies Mill grew up together, there is little evidence today that the mill was ever there.
The White Pine College Exhibit debuts on the Virtual Museum of Canada website Friday.
On the Archives’ local website you will find bonus material, including an interactive map of historic locations.
