Since you’re not heading to the cottage or cabin due to travel bans imposed by the COVID panic, you won’t be encountering any bears this Easter Weekend, but if you do, exercise caution as bears are coming of hibernation.
The MNRF says take some simple precautions and you’ll minimize encounters.
The 2 metre social distancing rule is greater in the case of bears, so store any garbage in waste containers with tight fitting lids. Keep pet foods inside and clean food reside and grease from your grill after each time you cook.
If a bear is posing an immediate threat by displaying threatening or aggressive behaviour, remain calm and call 911.
For non-emergencies, the province operates a toll-free Bear Wise reporting line (1-866-514-2327).
The line is open 24/7 from April 1 to November 30.
