A winter storm warning has been issued from Cobden to Petawawa with a freezing rain warning still in effect from Arnprior out to Barry’s Bay. Environment Canada says the Ottawa Valley could see an additional 2 to 5 cm of snow and ice pellets fall today with total snowfall amounts in many areas between 20 to 30 cm by late this morning.
Strong winds gusting up to 60 km/h will whip up freshly fallen snow reducing visibility for drivers. Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow.
As a result of the freezing rain surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and hazardous. Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break. Utility outages may occur.
Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ONstorm@canada.ca or tweet reports using #ONStorm.
