There’s half a dozen forest fires currently burning in Algonquin Park. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is holding a blaze at 7.6 hectares that was reported Saturday night. That fire is located northwest of the Bonnechere River addition near Foys Lake. The MNRF says the largest uncontrolled blaze is 5 hectares and located upstream from the Barron River along Forbes Creek. The fire was reported on Sunday night (August 25th) around 5:45 pm and is currently not under control. The other four fires burning in Algonquin Park range from 0.1 to 0.6 hectares and are either being held or are under control. Firefighters are also responding to a reported forest fire near Bissett Creek in the Pembroke district. That blaze was also reported over the weekend and is currently under control. The MNRF says fires should never be left unattended and water and tools to put the blaze out should always be close at hand.
