Crews are on the scene of a forest fire on Doran Road in Petawawa. Just after 3:20 pm on Monday (August 26th) the Petawawa Fire Department and firefighters from the Garrison responded to the blaze. Deputy Fire Chief with the township fire department, Craig Proulx, says an ATV fire started in a field on Doran Road near Len Hopkins Drive and spread quickly with help from the wind. He says there was a lot of smoke and the fire was moving rapidly, but even under the conditions they were able to contain the blaze from spreading to nearby houses.
Proulx says drivers are being asked to avoid the section of Doran Road as crews will remain on scene between Black Bay Road and Airport Road throughout the night putting water on hot spots. No injuries are being reported at this time. The deputy fire chief says there isn’t currently a burn ban in Petawawa, however they are monitoring the situation on a daily basis.
