Whitewater Region is trying to get out in front of potential damages as flows along waterways in the Ottawa Valley are expected to surge.
Mayor Neil Nicholson has made an appeal to residents, urging anyone who is concerned about flooding affecting their property to get in touch, as the Ministry of Natural Resources’ latest report says that peak water levels for the Ottawa River are expected between now and Wednesday.
The ministry’s flood warning suggests the stretch of the Ottawa River near Lac Coulonge will be particularly vulnerable to increased water levels, exposing low-lying communities like Westmeath to the brunt of the overflow.
Nicholson encourages residents to keep in touch with the township by calling 613-646-2282 or, after hours, at 613-647-3333 if they need help in securing their home and property.
He adds that the township will be updating residents about flooding through their website and social media.
