Incumbent Conservative MP Cheryl Gallant has retained her seat in Algonquin-Renfrew-Pembroke while federally, the Liberals will form their fourth straight government.
Gallant, who was leading and confirmed at 11:30 p.m. with 57.5 per cent of the vote and 140 of 262 polls reporting, celebrated at an after party at Fresco’s in Pembroke. (Liberal Cyndi Mills was next with 35.7 per cent of the vote)
She described winning her ninth election as “humbling.”
She said she’d have liked to see a different federal result.
What was she hearing most on the campaign trail?
Her pledge to local constituents?
In the last federal election in 2021, Gallant, who was first elected in 2000, got just under 50 per cent of the vote with 28,967 votes, the NDP’s Jodie Primeau was second with 12,263 and Liberal Cyndi Mills was third with 11,335.
Liberal Cyndi Mills gathered with volunteers and her campaign team at the Clarion Hotel in Pembroke.
Eileen Jones-Whyte of the NDP hosted a watch party and volunteer thank you event at Festival Hall.
