Ontario Provincial Police in Renfrew and Arnprior and surrounding areas joined in the provincial Easter long weekend seatbelt campaign April 18 to 21.
“As a result of proactive traffic stops, 144 Provincial Offences Act charges were laid, 14 criminal charges and 78 POA warnings were issued in the Renfrew Detachment area,” reads an OPP press release. “Officers from the Renfrew Detachment also completed 19 RIDE programs over the weekend, resulting in several notable stops.”
While seatbelt use was the primary focus over the weekend, officers also conducted enforcement and education activities associated with unsafe driving behaviours, such as distracted driving, impaired driving and aggressive driving.
These efforts aim to reduce motor vehicle collisions, injuries and fatalities on OPP-patrolled highways.
“The OPP reminds drivers that while the campaign is over, officers are committed to traffic safety enforcement and education year-round,” reads the release.
