The Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment has officially wrapped up its Easter long weekend seatbelt campaign, which took place from April 18 to April 21. The campaign focused on improving road safety by targeting drivers and passengers who were not wearing seatbelts.
Over the four-day campaign, UOV OPP officers laid seven charges related to seatbelt violations. While seatbelt enforcement was the main priority, officers also paid close attention to other dangerous driving behaviours, including distracted driving, impaired driving, and aggressive driving. These efforts were part of a larger goal to reduce the number of vehicle collisions, injuries, and fatalities on highways patrolled by the OPP.
In addition to the seatbelt charges, officers laid three impaired driving-related charges under the Criminal Code. They also issued 31 speeding tickets, one distracted driving charge, one charge under the Liquor Licence Control Act, and three charges under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. Over the course of the weekend, UOV officers responded to more than 290 calls for service, showing their strong presence in the community.
The OPP is reminding all drivers that although the Easter campaign has ended, traffic safety enforcement and education remain a year-round commitment. Officers will continue working to keep Ontario roads safe for everyone.
