A record number of advance voters turned out across the country since early polls opened on Friday and Renfrew was no different with lineups and a steady stream of activity at the polling station at the myFM Centre.
Lewis MacDonald is a central poll supervisor at the Algonquin-Renfrew-Pembroke polling station at the myFM Centre in Renfrew.
MacDonald has decades of experience when it comes to local elections. He was formerly the returning officer for five provincial elections for the riding of Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke and for years has worked at local federal polling stations.
At the polling station Monday morning on the final day of advance polls, MacDonald said this year’s turnout is quite a bit larger than he’s seen in past years.
To what does he attribute the enthusiasm for advance voting seen across Canada?
He’s pleased to see the public engaged in the election process and getting out to vote because it’s something that affects everyone.
Election Day across Canada is on Monday, April 28.
Local candidates include: Randy Briand, United Party of Canada; incumbent MP Cheryl Gallant, Conservative; Eileen Jones-Whyte, NDP; Stefan Klietsch, Independent; Cyndi Mills, Liberal; Seth Malina, Independent; and Danilo Velasquez, Green Party.
