Members of the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment, along with support from the Renfrew OPP and Ottawa OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (TIME) Team, carried out a two-day traffic safety initiative in local communities on April 12 and 13.
The initiative began on April 12, with officers patrolling several communities, including Whitney, Madawaska, Barry’s Bay, Golden Lake, and Eganville. On April 13, the focus shifted to communities such as Beachburg, Westmeath, Pembroke, and Petawawa.
During the two-day operation, officers laid 94 charges and issued 35 warnings under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA). The offenses included speeding, driving without insurance, driving while suspended, unnecessary noise, failing to wear a seatbelt, and not wearing a helmet. Additionally, several RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) Programs were conducted, with no impaired driving or over-80mg charges laid.
The traffic safety initiative highlights the OPP’s ongoing efforts to improve road safety and enforce traffic laws across the region, ensuring safer streets for everyone.
