What’s good in Arnprior today, is some topical information about an upcoming road project; how do we know it’s good? Well, we just have to listen to Engineering Officer Ryan Wall.
Wall says seven tenders were received, the low-ball was from Tarstone Construction, and with just over 200k of supervisory work provided by JP2G a substantial savings is achieved over the estimated budget.
Not so fast, said Councillor Chris Toner! The first phase of the MacDonald Street reconstruction was two-months late when the road work season ended last autumn…
Wall maintains that JP2G quickly caught unfortunate discrepancies on Craig Street and in last year’s MacDonald leg, completed under another contractor.
Councillors had several questions about the new PXO crossing on Baskin Drive but appeared satisfied the Town staff had anticipated their concerns.
The good news is that timely tendering, combined with contractors no longer facing a glut of post-Covid work has brought anticipated charges down, and the combined three-aspect tender results in a savings of $$2,003,879.72 below what had been budgeted.
Although Tarstone, from Ashton, is new as a principal contractor, they have subcontracted a number of local jobs in the past.
