The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked its mandate following the arrest of an individual in Renfrew on Thursday, April 10.
Ontario Provincial Police from the Renfrew Detachment responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence and one person was taken into custody.
“During the interaction, officers discharged an Anti-Riot Weapon Enfield (ARWEN),” reads a Thursday night OPP social media post. “The OPP has notified the SIU, which has invoked its mandate. As a result, the OPP will not be able to provide any further information.”
Thursday night, SIU spokesperson Kristy Denette said the man who was arrested was not injured.
The incident is believed to have taken place in the vicinity of the Rotary Homes on Francis Street and Rotary Avenue, where an increased police presence was observed Thursday afternoon and into the evening.
